Women's Shapewear - Its Evolution Over the Years

If we try to figure out the duration for which women's shapewear has been in vogue, we would not have an exact answer. From times immemorial, women have tried to put on their best features on display and also to hide their not so attractive features. Trying to be attractive in front of a man is a woman's natural desire. At point of time in history women tried to make their chests flat so they could resemble masculine features. Even iron corsets were worn for this purpose, which really shows the level of desperation that those girls possessed! Again during the eighteenth century, in order to have a waist which would look like a wasp, very tight-fitting corsets were worn to make the waistline smaller.



At the start of the 19th century the bras were devised and a material named Lastex started to be used. The creation of the girdle also took place at that time and enabled the women to shrink the portion around their stomach. Girdles are basically undergarments which are elastic in nature and assist a woman to maintain a smooth shape. They are made of various materials like Spandex, Lycra or Powernet. They can be very easily worn and are not unduly thick or excessively heavy. Various levels of compression are available for these, ranging from light to strong and differing levels of controls are also present accordingly in these women's shapewear.



When Spandex came into the market in the later stages of 1990s, a record upsurge in the procured shapewear by women took place. The women's shapewear industry is now a booming one, with the demand for products rising by the day. For enhancing the size of your breasts or for reducing the thickness of one's thighs and legs women's shapewear can really come in handy. One can also make her butt look more attractive and the arms to be more shapely and good-looking. So, it can be easily deciphered that this industry is going to stay and definitely grow as the quest for looking perfect and beautiful is an eternal desire in any human being.
