Dallas, TX May 30, 2004 -โ" The Haven Women's Outreach launches it's annual campaign, EMPOWER 300. โThis campaign represents our vision to transform the lives of 300 women and their children.โ These women are survivors of domestic violence, economically disadvantaged, single mothers caring for more than one child, and striving for self-sufficiency. โTrue economic independence creates โself-sufficiency' โ" there is nothing more empowering than knowing you can take care of yourself and your family.
This campaign is about providing the extended training and services to a greater population of underserved women that will yield physical, psychological, and financial healthโ, says Kim Harris, co-founder/director.
The goal of the EMPOWER 300 campaign is to raise $150,000 within the next 12 months. This will help The Haven Women's Outreach to expand its existing training program to a monthly basis, rather than on the current quarterly schedule. Up to 25 women per month will have an opportunity to complete 90 hours of intense training and certification preparation.
โThe results: improved quality of life for 300 women each yearโ, says Ms. Harris. Qualified participants are required to complete a comprehensive application process to determine eligibility.
The Haven Women's Outreach started in January 2002 as a Dallas-based nonprofit. Training and economic development workshops have been offered to women throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area. โKnowledge is not power unless it is applied with a specific plan. Our plans include a deliberate agenda to impact the lives of 300 women by taking the necessary steps to ensure they are able to expand their income potential and improve their quality of life โ" WOW! How empowering is that!? The needs of these women are great and, therefore, the plan must be greaterโ, says Ms.
Harris. โGiving these women direction, knowledge, pearls of wisdom, and the intangibles that can't be expressed is what makes our program a success. They receive leadership, mentorship, and teaching from some of Dallas' most prominent business men and women. And, with the consistent support co-founder/volunteer program director, Hazel Anthony, our training sessions are paired with experts in the topic being taughtโ, she continues.
The Haven Women's Outreach mission is to embrace, educate, and empower women who have been emotionally, economically, and socially displaced.
Training includes preparation for the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification, Personal and Professional Development, and Financial Literacy and Education. Supporters include the Dallas Women's Foundation, CitiCards Credit Services, Verizon Foundation, Solender-Hall, and individuals from across the U.S.
