It seems strange to come across young women with hair loss. The truth though is that they are every bit as real as the men who have it. Realizing this fact is the first real step to understanding the condition in females.
There are many different possible causes for falling strands among youthful individuals. In very rare cases, one may be suffering from an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system inexplicably attacks the follicles in the scalp leading to bald spots. Another rare possible cause is trichotillomania, an impulse control disorder in which a person has the sudden urge to pull on head strands.
There are some other more common likely reasons for young women with hair loss. The condition can be caused by emotional or physical stress. There are also those who suffer from severe nutrient deprivation which affects the health of the scalp. A third more common cause is hormonal changes. At some point in a female's life, estrogen levels can drop. This leaves the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) free to attack the follicles.
The most usual cause for the decrease in estrogen is the period after pregnancy.
After delivering, mothers often experience some degree of hormonal fluctuations. This can last for several months. The good news is that it is not a permanent state. This is why the only treatment necessary is to just wait for the strands to grow back.
No one can ever deny that young women with hair loss are real. Thanks to modern research however, it is now possible to arrive at an understanding of the condition.
